Passenger Killed When Speeding Driver Fleeing From Traffic Stop Crashes Into Maryland Home: PD

A woman was killed and five others suffered serious injuries when a Lexus driver attempting to avoid a traffic stop lost control and crashed into a Jessup home, according to the Anne Arundel County Police Department.

Shortly before 1 a.m. on Monday morning, an officer on patrol spotted a Lexus IS 350 driven by Odenton resident Trayquan Edward McKesson, 26, speeding in the area of Annapolis Road and Reece Road in Severn, prompting an attempted traffic stop.

Police say that the vehicle sped away from the area, and the officer did not pursue the driver; however, minutes later, there was a 911 call reporting a crash on Jessup Road near Oak Ridge Road in Jessup involving the Lexus.

According to the initial investigation, the driver was heading west on Jessup Road, speeding, when he failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and struck a vacant home.

The driver and four passengers were transported to the University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center with serious, life-threatening injuries. A fifth passenger, Pasadena native Julie Michelle Nushawg, 26, was transported to the Baltimore Washington Medical Center with serious injuries and pronounced dead at the facility.

  • Diamond Shanae Cole, 22, of Stoney Beach;
  • Jayla Scotlin Smith, 23, of Baltimore;
  • Dominik Lee Maddox, 21, of Upper Marlboro;
  • De'Andre Lewis-Queen, 23, of Glen Burnie.
